What is the gene DYX1C1?
DYX1C1's full name is Dyslexia susceptibility 1 candidate gene 1. DYX1C1 was first reported to be correlated to Dyslexia in a Finish family study where 3 distinct families are recruited and all members that were diagnosed of Dyslexia have some kind of variation of translocation at DYX1C1 region.
Recently, DYX1C1 was given a new name: DNAAF4, Dynein Axonemal Assembly Factor 4. This is because studies have recently found that DYX1C1 is a critial factor in cilia motility and dynein arm assembly.
The central role of DYX1C1(C15q21.3) during development focuses on neuronal migration, and specifically in short-term storage of verbal information[2] Recent studies suggests that knockdown of D1X1C1 impairs cell migration velocity [3], as well as construction of the primary cilia of the neurons in the brain.
In this study, DYX1C1 and DNAAF4 refers to the same gene. Learn more about the individual topics!
